NBA Preview: Minnesota Timberwolves vs Miami Heat

Monday evening’s match between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat has the potential to be a great game, as both teams are hungry for a win. The Timberwolves dropped an away decision against the Celtics on Friday, while the Heat suffered a home loss to the Pacers. In November, Minnesota handily defeated Miami 105-101 at home. The Heat is looking for redemption, not just over the Wolves, after losing two games in a row following their four-game win streak this month.

Both of the teams have a 16-17 record and with this game, anyone can reach the 0.500 records again. Moreover, they need to step up their play in order to improve their less-than-impressive home record.

Heat opens as a favorite on FanDuel and BetMGM sportsbook. It’ll be an exciting game, and it could go either way with all of these factors in space.

Minnesota Struggling on the Road

The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the thick of a four-game road trip and unfortunately got off to a tough start with their most recent defeat at the hands of the Celtics. Despite entering as 9.5-point underdogs, Minnesota had been riding some momentum with three consecutive victories prior to this matchup. Sadly, they have been unable to keep up this form and have dropped back-to-back games.

On the flip side, they are still much improved from earlier in the season and have covered the spread in one of their last three clashes when traveling away from home. With an average scoring rating of 11th in the league and conceding averages ranking them 22nd, the Timberwolves look to regain their top form before returning home.

Miami Looks to Avoid Third Straight Defeat

The Miami Heat have been a bit up and down lately as they look to avoid a third consecutive defeat. After winning four games in a row, they narrowly lost two very close home games against the IND Pacers (17-16) and CHI Bulls (14-18). While the Heat have been playing well at times, their inconsistent offense has caused them to struggle with covering spreads.

In the last ten games, they’ve had only three successes when considering that betting line. The Heat will be hard at work trying to figure out how to reverse this negative trend and come away with a much-needed win.

Jimmy Butler is having yet another powerful season, consistently putting up 20+ points in six consecutive games. The 33-year-old small forward is proving he still has plenty left in the tank, boasting 21.8 PPG this season, accompanied by an impressive 6.8 RPG.

Tyler Herro’s form has waned a bit lately as he’s shot below 45% in his last three performances. However, the 22-year-old point guard can still put on a show, like his 41-point performance against the Rockets recently that propelled Miami to victory.

Finally, Bam Abedayo is back to his best form again with two out of his last three games delivering 22 points or more and an average of 20.8 PPG and 9.8 RPG all year long — even scoring 17 points when playing Minnesota last month.
