NBA Preview: Atlanta Hawks vs Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic have once again found their winning form after a skid in December saw them lose nine out of twelve games. On Wednesday, they stand to extend a three-game winning streak as they prepare to take on the Atlanta Hawks at home, having previously conquered the Los Angeles Clippers in overtime, followed by smashing wins over the Toronto Raptors.

This marks only their second streak of the season and the longest since February 2021. The Magic had previously won four consecutive games at the start of 2020-21, and are looking to match or even exceed that feat this time around. It remains to be seen whether this renewed energy is here to stay.

According to Magic coach Jamahl Mosley, they are asking players to defend at an elite level, and the squad is doing well.

“We are asking them to share the basketball and move the basketball, which they did. They’re trusting each other and communicating with each other, staying poised down the stretch, which they’ve done,” he said. “We’re moving in the right direction, and we’ve got to continue to that.”

Atlanta Hawks vs. Orlando Magic Preview

Since Paolo Banchero returned to the lineup last month after a nearly three-week absence, he has had a major impact on the Orlando Magic’s recent winning streak. In four straight games, Banchero has scored at least 20 points and pulled down 8.8 rebounds.

His efforts have been supported by the rock-steady play of Franz Wagner, who in the last four games has risen to the occasion with 24.3 points per game and is now second behind Banchero in terms of team scoring for the season with 19.8 points per game. With both of these dynamic players heading up the lineups in Orlando, it’s no wonder that the team is on such a winning streak.

The Atlanta Hawks have emerged triumphant in both games facing the Orlando Magic this season. The first meeting took place on Oct. 21 in Atlanta, with Trae Young hitting 25 points for the Hawks’ victory. Their second encounter took place on Nov. 30 in Orlando and despite a lot of hard work from the Magic, Trae Young scored an impressive 30 points and clinched the win for his team yet again.

However, Young’s status remains uncertain for their upcoming contest as he is currently out with a back injury sustained during Monday’s game against all-time rivals, Memphis Grizzlies. Despite putting up their greatest efforts to secure a win without their star player, the Hawks were slated to suffer a heavy loss of 128-103 due to Memphis’ excellent shooting performance which reached an amazing 60.2 percent accuracy rate.

With this worrying slump in form, the Hawks have lost four out of their last five games and may drop beneath .500 again.
