Buccaneers, Listed as Favorites to Acquire Derek Carr

After Tom Brady’s retirement announcement in early February, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now on the hunt for a new quarterback. At this time, they have Kyle Trask as the only signal-caller contracted with the franchise and will consider their options in both free agency and via trade.

Despite claiming the last two AFC South titles, Tampa Bay opened as one of the least favored to win the Super Bowl LVIII. They are listed as +8000 on BetMGM Sportsbook and +7500 on FanDuel Sportsbook.

It is highly unlikely that they would settle for lesser talents when they still retain stars across multiple positions after so much effort was made to assemble a competitive roster. Moreover, with the 19th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, there certainly is no room left for them to be complacent.

Odds To land Derek Carr

With the NFL offseason nearing, the usually quiet Tampa Bay area surrounding the Buccaneers has been lit up by the ever-growing prospect of quarterback Derek Carr coming to their team. The rumors kicked into high gear after all attention at the recent Senior Bowl in Mobile was that Carr and the Buccaneers were likely to agree with a contract this off-season.

It appears that Tampa Bay has the best chance of landing Derek Carr this off-season. Sportsbooks have released odds that give Tampa Bay +250, making them 28.6% likely to land Carr, while Carolina followed closely at +300 and New Orleans came in third with +400.

Even teams outside the NFC South were able to make the list, as both New York (+625) and Indianapolis (+1000) are at a slightly lower probability of 10%, and Houston sits even lower at 7%. Whatever decision he makes, it looks certain that as long as he is on the market, Carr will have plenty of interest from teams around the league

More About Carr

Derek Carr may have had a difficult season in 2022, but his career numbers prove he still has plenty to offer. The four-time Pro Bowler has completed 60.8% of his passes for over 3,500 yards and 24 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in 2022. But even in a down year, it’s worth noting that just one year prior (2021), he achieved a career-high of 4,804 passing yards.

His impressive resume also includes seven seasons with at least 20 touchdown passes and a superb interception percentage of just 2%.
